30 Day Monitoring

I got a cigarette pack sized monitor through the mail (ordered by Dr.) on Friday. I have to apply the leads, record anytime I feel "funny", keep a journal of those times, change the lead adhesive stickers, and call in to download the info every day or two.
The unit makes a "ringing" sound (like a telephone) every 1/2 hour, so that you know that it is working, and has a flashing light for those who can't hear the ringing.
The first night, I awoke, and realized that I hadn't heard the "ringing" for several hours. I examined the sticky adhesives for the leads, and found that one wasn't making contact. After I replaced it, the ringing resumed. I then called in to check that it was working OK (it was).
Anyone else do a 30 day monitoring like this?

21 Day Monitor

I had a 21 day Monitor in Jan after having my PM removed because of erosion. Yes, mine was a blackberry with full keyboard. It was nasty as every time I had to removed it from it's case from my belt it would lose cell phone connection because it was almost impossible to keep it online. This meant to go through pre-programming again.

I had this through U of M ann Arbor, MI and they found 1st degree block and could get along without PM after three replacements over 17 years. Well, this didn't happen as medication didn't keep my lower HR up and had a new installation a month later. I also got into Afib and went from Tenormin to Betapace as meds. This really settled rthym down and lots less sleepless nights

I wore a 30 day event monitor for a few weeks about a year ago. Thankfully, mine did not beep unless there was a problem!
I wore it all the time, and I pushed a button whenever I felt the irregular rhythm that I had explained to my doctor. After the recording, I would send the information over the phone to my doctor.
Luckily, it did not take the full 30 days for them to find the info. that they needed, and I was able to send it back early!

What a pain

I had one of these but it was several yrs ago. I went into Dr's office, they put it on & I did write down anything strange but as it was several yrs ago I did not have to call it in. Probably not advanced enough back then, I guess. I think the ringing sound & flashing light would drive me crazy. Be interested to hear what others are doing with this test. Good luck. Hope you get a lot of answers after all this work. Bet you don't get a discount for all the work & annoyances that you have to deal with.

Monitor....

Hi Starwish.

I am having what they call a Loop or Event Recorder tomorrow. Usually they are worn for 30 days, but my cardiologist is only going to have me wear it for 2 weeks.

So, I'll post something tomorrow once I have it all attached.

Question: I have a mammogram scheduled for Thursday. I'm assuming I'll just detach myself from the recorder for the mammogram. anyone else run into this? gee, I'm also having a CT of my abdomen on Wednesday. BUT here in Nova Scotia, I gotta take the recorder when it's available. oh well.

thanks
Pookie

sounds like you need to bill the doctor for doing his work, just kiddin. be sure to ask why they want to do thsi and demand to know if it is related to a possible proble with your device. keep good records and get better, smile and out live your doctor. best wishes t you ad yours

Monitor

I had a succession of monitors. When my heart problem was first discovered I was in hospital for 3 days on a 'normal' monitor, then I had a 24-hour Holter type one, then a 7-day one, and then finally an implanted monitor which could have lasted a year but they discovered the 3rd degree AV block and pauses after 2 months so I had the PM fitted.

Monitor

I had to wear a 30 day event monitor a few weeks after my last pacemaker replacement because my heart would start racing after any movement. I had to press the button after every event then call right away or record a few and then call in. My biggest problem was the beeping noise after recording the event, my students would get concerned. Also, I accidently hit the record button, no matter where I wore it, a couple times a day. After the 30 days my doc. had to change setting on the pm. No more racing.

Was my face red!

Just an update on wearing the 30 day monitor. It maked a LOUD ringing sound (like a cell phone) every 1/2 hour to let you know that it is working (no volume control). Anyway, sometimes I have to hook it on my bra when I wear a dress (otherwise I hook it on the waistband of shorts/pants). While I was sitting and reading in the waiting room of my "regular Dr.", This loud ringing sound started coming from my chest. I was so embarassed. I pretended that I didn't know where the sound was coming from.
As I am writing this, I realize that it would be even more embarassing if the ringing came from my "nether region" when I hook it on my waistband. :-D
It's going to be a LONG month!!!!!
