Keyless entry/ignition and hybrid systems in cars

Hi, I am new to the club and am not sure how to search for messages about keyless entry/ignition systems and their possible interference with pacemakers. I may soon ride as a passenger in a Lexus Hybrid and someone told me there may be an issue with my pacemaker. An old article from the manufacturer (Boston Scientific) says no reported issues but there are no guarantees! I intend to go over this with my doc but thought I would ask you guys too! Thanks.

We have a keyless entry/ ignition car that is not a hybrid. I drive/ ride in it with no problems. Don't know about the hybrids.

Thank you. Good to know that. One down and one to go. I hope the combination of technology in this new car does not limit me as a passenger.

keyless hybrid OK

I have several friends with keyless ignition hybrids.

Have ridden in their cars numerous times with no ill effects.

Truth is, not much bothers these modern pacemakers.

New devices

and their wires are shielded pretty well. Most are MRI compatible. I have a keyless system, no problems. I think you'd have to ride in the engine compartment with your device near any ignition wires to have any problem.

The search tab is in the upper right corner of this site. Normally the oldest posts come up at the top so I'd scroll down to get the latest ones. Also, FAQs on the left side has some info.

I find that the 6 inch separation from my device is a very conservative safety factor. Occasionally someone will come across something that makes them feel funny, but it's usually some industrial equipment, or some electrical device that has bad wiring/grounding which is hazardous to anyone.

When I was a newbie I'd just approach slowly and if I felt funny, walk away slowly. Though back then if I felt funny it was usually caused by my anxiety.

Just keep the hood closed

On the hybrids keep the hood closed when the ignition is on, because the generator engine will run and there is a strong magnetic field from the high voltage generator

We owned a 2010 Prius when I got my device. Now own a 2013 Prius. Never have felt anything that would make me think I was experiencing interference, and my device nurse has never found an artifact in my record. See also my post under "coping".
