ONLY A YEAR LEFT

I went for my pacemaker clinic this week. The nurses told me I have one year left on my pacemaker. So exactly, what does that mean ? I am confused. Does the whole pacemaker get replaced or just the battery ?? I have had mine since 2002. Could someone explain, one pacemaker club member to another what happens...... thanks

Just the battery

Hi. Usually it's just the main battery unit that gets replaced, the wires are meant to last longer. The procedure will probably be similar to your previous one, done under a local anaesthetic.

Hope that helped!

I did actually mean the whole case, hence 'main battery unit'. But they do leave the leads for longer.

THANKS NEW PACEMAKER

Ive learned such a lot of new stuff in the last few days, I really thought that they would just take out the battery and replace it, didnt realise they take out the whole thing.

Thanks for the info

You say you could not lift your left arm - is that because they TOLD you not to?
Usually they tell patients that so the LEADS can heal, so this shouldn't be an issue this time.

You know you're wired when...

You can feel your fingers and toes again.

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
