UGHHHHH!!!

Just had my yearly check-up interrogation today! Everything looks fine....but..... I am sooooooo upset, disappointed, bummed, depressed now, because they said I had another 6mo up to a year left on my pm. I was fuming the whole time waiting for the doc to show up.
Well anyway...this is why I am upset.....

2007 - they said I had approx 1 1/2 yrs left....oh that's great...no problem...I'll wait.

2008 - Uh...what's this???... ANOTHER 1 1/2 yrs left on my pm battery. Ok...I can still deal with that but not as happy.

2009 - (TODAY) - They say...I have 6mo to yr left....HMMMMMMMMMMMM. It should be DEAD!

My PM is working just as much has it has been.

I'm sure you are wondering why that is a bad thing....well....I have been holding off getting pregnant thinking my battery was going to die for 2 yrs now and now they say I might have to wait another year! My youngest is going to be 4 on Tues and I did not plan on waiting to have another child that long. I am extremely disappointed and hurt. Oh well....I guess that's what you get for having a PM. lol. Plus I am not getting any younger. I go back in a month and he is going to see what he can do....he doesn't mind changing it...but the insurance companies might...cuz I'm not in the "red" zone...ooooooo.

Thanks for listening!!! I'm just ranting and raving! I do feel better!

I could have had 2 children by now....waiting!!!! hahaha

go for it

Just go ahead and try to get pregnant. Don't try to time it around batteries, things rarely work the way we plan them anyway so let nature take its course and see how it goes. You could need the battery before it happens, the battery could last through a pregnancy. Worst case, getting a battery change while pregnant isn't the end of the world. I was in that potential situation (surprise pregnancy with less than 9 mos battery life left) and the doctor didn't bat an eye. I was all worried, he just said when it needs changed, we'll change it.

It doesn't sound to me like they're too much off what they said, they may say a precise number but that's the conservative estimate because their predictions are always a range. 12 mos ago they said 18 mos (which probably meant 18-24), now they're saying 6-12 so that's what I would have expected. When the battery starts to get low, sometimes they try to tinker with the settings to make it last a bit longer so it's not uncommon to get more than they tell you to expect, to be on the long end of the estimated range. The first key is when they say come back in a year, it means you have well over a year. If they really thought it'd stop is 12 mos, they'd want to see you in 3 or 6.

I've had mine replaced with 6 mos life left, insurance didn't give me a hard time about it. I try to do them when the kids are on summer break because they always spend a few weeks with my parents. Not that it's a big deal getting a replacement- I've had 3 now- but it's just a bit easier if I can do it when I'm not trying to juggle kid schedules around. I just had a check yesterday and I'm getting low, so that was my big question... will it last til next summer LOL.

Thanks!

Thanks for all of your comments!!! I do appreciate them!!! I've calmed down some since yesterday....lol. I go back in a month and I'll wait to see. My original recheck was 6 mo. We'll see.....

You guys all have wonderful input!

I will not get pregnant, because for me personally I do not want to risk having surgery while pregnant, whether they say it's ok or not. I had complications (unrelated to pm) with my other two children to risk it. If I would have been smart...I would have asked this a year or two ago on here and THEN I probably would have gotten pregnant. Oh well....I can't change that now. I'll wait to see what the insurance co says. Who knows....they might not care!

Thanks again!
Cheers:)

Battery life estimates

by ElectricFrank - 2009-06-12 12:06:54

The remaining battery life is estimated based upon a measure of its voltage and internal impedance. This gives an ideal of how much energy is left in it. This information is then used to calculate remaining life based upon the battery drain of the settings currently in use.

This last part is the problem. At one point I had 2 1/2 years estimated on mine. Due to a virus we set the pacing energy on mine higher to assure reliable pacing. The additional current cause my estimate to drop to 1 1/2 yrs. A few weeks later when I was over the virus I asked to have the setting returned to normal. At this point the estimate went back up to 2 1/2 yrs again.

So the bottom line is that the estimates are only useful if the pacer settings and your percent pacing remain the same, which they rarely do.
