update

How much pace can a pacemaker pace if a pacer cant be paced?
Say that 3 times fast. You know you will eventually, lol
It’s interesting the thoughts that can go through ones mind when trying to past time…or is that just me?

Anyway, just an update: I’m scheduled for an emergency surgery today at 4:30pm, but check in is at 2:30. Well, for a quick recap: I’ve been having pretty bad pain coming from my right ovary and they didn’t really know what was wrong until now. They did see a cyst of some sort, but they weren’t too sure what it was. Today I went in for another CT scan, and then another appointment right after, and that’s when I learned that the cyst is a dermoid type cyst, which is causing my ovary to twist, thus the emergency intervention given that this is my only remaining ovary.
The good news is that its in a position where my doctor can make sure not to disturb the ovary as much as possible. And, this is also what might be causing my fast heart rate (b/c of the pain) so hopefully after this surgery all those symptoms will stop.
More good news is that my university will be willing to work with me and I’ll still be given the opportunity to continue my research with one of my professors, even perhaps present my research at the Scientific Convention the beginning of next year. And, I’ll most likely be able to take my MCATs (Medical College Admissions Test) as planned, which is sometime this December!
And my dad was happy…he said, “Yes! Now I can use those cafeteria coupons they gave us last time!”
“Anything to make you happy Daddy,” I reply, haha.
No, but seriously, we feel nervous, but we know God has everything under control. And this doctor’s very good. I don’t even have the urge to write:
“Cut here”
on my abdomen :p
My family and I were going to go to Los Angeles for treatment, but since the results came back so soon, I’ll be having it near my house, at the St. Joseph Hospital. They’re pretty good, but we did have some issues with them in the past; hopefully this will be a different experience, and after all this, I can come back on this site more often and meet up with all the new pacers out there, and catch up with all my previous pacer friends.
Well, I guess I should sleep now. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. They mean more to me than you probably realize.
Take care,
~valerie

Hi Valerie,

You may not read this before leaving for good old St. Joe's but nonetheless you are in my heart (always) and prayers have been lifted up. I asked our Lord to be with your surgeon, to guide his steps and keep his hand steady, comfort for your mom and dad as they wait and most of all for you, my sweet, to have a successful surgery, preserving the ovary and quick recovery. I am pleased for you and your family not to have to go into LA for this. I believe it is very comforting to be close to home. And, St. Joe's is a wonderful, wonderful Center of Excellence. Maybe once you get home I can get over the hill to see you and meet your family. Take my good thoughts, love and prayers with you. The Lord will have you right in the palm of His hand the entire time!

With Love,
Sharon

Good to know that everything is going to be all right for you! And there you go making us all smile (including your dad) when this is your big day! Then again...your surgeon might not think you are so funny if you did draw a "cut here" line--he might write back with "Oops!" Not so funny. ha ha Can't wait to have you back around the site with your post-op humor. :)

I'm travelling through CA tomorrow from AZ and then back to AZ next week...I'll be going through the LA area. Wish I knew where you were! I'll be waving to you as I go through!

Valerie,

You'll be in my prayers today. You positive attitude is an inspiration to me.

Isn't it great when you find a doctor you know doesn't need a dotted line to follow!
