Guidant Class Action

Since getting my 2nd letter about the Guidant class action I am really concerned. My model of pacemaker is listed and I wonder what happens if my pacemaker fails as they say it could. Apparently it can be very serious for the patient.Does anyone have any thoughts on this if you also have a Guidant pacemaker.

ask your dr

Is the letter from a lawyer that wants you to join a law suit or a letter from Guidant telling you it's been recalled? I'd ask your dr for the scoop. Your safety is a bigger concern than some lawyer trying to get more people to join their class action. Failing could mean a lot of things, it depends on how it would fail and how you use the pm. Your dr will know if there has been a recall on your model and if it's risky enough that you should replace it before the battery goes.

If you have not already done so, follow this link to the Boston Scientific/Guidant website and use the Device Lookup Tool that you will find there:

http://www.bostonscientific.com/webapp/emarketing/lookup.jsp?us_pop_flag=no

By doing this you can determine if your particular serial number of a certain model was found to be defective and subject to the recall.

In 2007 I was implanted with a Guidant pacemaker...Model 1290. Shortly after I found out that this particular model had, just before my surgery, been subject to a recall. By going through the steps of the Device Lookup Tool I was able to determine that my serial number of the model was not subject to the recall. I presume that it was manufactured after the recall. That helped greatly to ease my fears.

Recently a class action suit was started up here in Canada against Boston Scientific/Guidant and letters were sent out to all recipients of any BS/G pacemaker regardless of whether their model (and serial number of that model) was subject to the recall or not. I am not sure where you live but just getting a notification letter, at least here in Canada, does not mean you were given a defective product.

For your peace of mind use the Device Lookup Tool. You should have your BS/G ID card handy as you will be asked to type in your model number and serial number.

Check the Boston Scientific web site first before contacting any lawyer.

Recalls are different with pacemakers than with other products. Any repairs or replacements require surgery to access it, and we really don't want that unless it is necessary.

Don't listen to anything Guidant says

History has proven that Boston Scientific/Guidant are a bunch of liars who hide the truth from our doctors and government regulators. The most dishonest lawyer is more hororable than Guidant. I would not believe anything Guidant tells you. Guidant has betrayed us over and over again. Innocent people were dying from defective Guidant products while Guidant kept silent and kept selling deathdealing ICD's. How can any of you be telling people to contact Guidant for honest answers or advice? Where is the outrage against a company that played Russian Roulette with our lives. Everyone here should contact their doctors and beg them to stop implanting Boston Scientific/Guidant products. Why do we not stand up to these heartless companies who cared less about whether innocent people died?
