Feedback on St. Jude PM2240 Assurity

I have had a Medtronic dual chamber pacemaker for last 14 years which is due for a change. Never had any issues with it.

Due to rare arterial fibrillation my doc now wants to replace it with a St. Jude PM2240 Assurity.

I would appreciate feedback from those having experience with this device.

Thanks.

I recommend that you check out the FDA website to see if there have been any incident reports with the SJM PM2240

I have a St. Jude Medical PM2210 and I have lots of issues.

I finally have a cardiologist who is going to send me to a PM specialist.

My PM makes a strange noise, I go into aFib, I have syncope and other issues since having the PM implant in July 2013.

I am only 57 and otherwise healthy, 5'8" and 140 pounds, I make an effort to take care of myself.

Good Luck

Johnson, your rant about St. Jude's PM is negatively impacting others yet the fact is you are attacking the manufacturer when your problems are not related to the Pacemaker.

Syncope is not a function of heart rate or other electrical issue. It is due to low blood pressure most often evident when we change position rapidly and the heart cannot compensate for the drop in pressure. Lack of O2 to the brain causes you to black out.

The loop in your lead is intentionally put in to prevent tension against the contacts during physical movement. As for noise...well that's a term that frankly is thrown around rather loosely and you need to get clarification on that. Now if you are talking audible noise, some devices do in fact have audible alarms for various purposes. Check your owners manual or go to the St. Judes web site and check. I'm too lazy to do it for you.

Your device has absolutely no effect on AFib. Pacemakers are only for a slow heart rate and/or missed beats.

I would suggest you discuss this situation with your doctor and stop scaring everyone and yourself with inaccurate information. Educate yourself before making medical decisions.

You know you're wired when...

You always have something close to your heart.

My pacemaker was installed in 1998 and I have not felt better. The mental part is the toughest.
