RE: sweettartgirl - here i am!

Hi everyone!
Yes it's Laura (aka sweettartgirl)...I saw the message from stillshocked asking where I was and so just wanted to give a little update. Sorry I don't post much anymore. I am super busy lately, and as with a lot of pacemaker reciepients after the first year or two it becomes normal as to where there's not as much need for the constant support as at first. I'm three years out now and it's great and I barely ever think of my pacemaker anymore and it hasn't caused me any problems!

Anywho. I'm doing pretty great! I graduated from highschool (with my class!) in June and move to seattle in 9 days to start as an undergrad at the University of Washington! I'm incredibly excited to start this new chapter of my life and to be attending such an amazing school! Most of you know I am pre med, and I'll be starting on a research team with a prominent neurosurgeon once I get settled in. Of course, there's a bit of nervousness, but mostly I'm just counting down and can't wait!

Health wise, this summer has gone pretty well. Heart wise, my pacemaker is working great but I am now dealing with pretty much constant tachycardia for which we've exhausted all conservative methods and have discussed ablation however which is complicated by the fact that my heart problems are most likely caused by the brain malformation (Chiari) I have so we're not sure if it'll work which is why i'm seeing an amazing cardiologist in OH in April. HOpefully I can make it until then as the symptoms are quite terrible and exhausting. Neurologically, I'm doing great and am 6 months post op from the latest neurosurgery. I just pray there won't be anymore for a while and that this school year it will be uneventful health wise! It is a bit worrisome with me starting school as the past four years there's always been a diagnosis and need of surgery at the beginning of each school year. Hopefully this is a turning point :)

Again, I am always open to questions and I hope you all are doing great! Even though I don't post as often, I check in frequently and keep you all in my prayers - both the old and hte new :)

God bless,
Laura

Laura,

We've missed you. Good luck at the University of Washington. It's nice to see that you want to become a doctor to help others.
