Tell us more!

Princess:  You didn't tell us very much about WHY you got the ICD!  WE cannot read minds, so how can we give you intelligent comments w/ any more detail than you have given us?

All I know is that you are a new ICD host, hurt everywhere, live in New York, are about 43 yrs old & are scared to death.

Not unusual to be scared to death; not unusual to live in NYC (There are about 10 milllion of you that do); not unusual to hurt everwhere after surgery; not unusual to be 43 yrs old (a whole bunch of us are - or older).

Fill out your bio sketch & a more detailed post & I'll be glad to come back w/ better, more useful comments.

Don't be afraid, but be watchful

Dont be afraid to call your doctor with any worries.  It is so normal to be scared, and your doctors are there for you so use their knowledge and let them give you reassurance and direction.  No concern is unimportant. Keep your mind busy and know that you have had surgery and it will be uncomfortable and painful in places.  Breathe and soften yourself.

Understandable

Like you, I was petrified of getting a pacemaker and I didn't have any time to worry about it as they took me by ambulance from the docotrs ( did't feel any symptoms) after reading the 24 hour Holter monitor. To complicate things, they gave me a new blood pressure med that made me extremely depressed. When I read over the side affects, I demanded a new med and that made all the difference. After a month now, I am realizing that the pacemaker is just a device to help me and only operaes as needed , and I would be far worse or not alive if I did not have it. It has taken a few weeks now and I am more at ease. Another thng that helped was calling the PM manufacturer patient line and they were very kind in answering quetions on the PM functioning. This tension and worry will pass as others n the forum have been very helpful in stating.

Glad you found us!

Scared is normal at first.  Like Don said, talk to us and tell us where your pain is located.  Discomfort is normal right after surgery and we all have a different pain tolerance.

Having an ICD can be a little unnerving at first......ok, a lot unnerving.  I want to reassure you because I have an ICD too.  I have had it for almost 8 years and so far it has never fired.  It's good to know it's there if we need it though.

Feel free to ask questions and state your concerns.....that's why we are here.
