Pacemaker Testing

Hi all, my husband, has Sick Sinus Syndrome and Bradycardia. We opted for a Pacemaker. A few hours after surgery a Tech came in to test it. He layed what he termed a magnet over the pacemaker. My husband screamed and his monitors went wild. The Tech removed the magnet. The Tech waited a few minutes and tried it again...with the same result. My husband begged me to find someone to help him. Next day Cardiologist came in and tried it for himself - same results - my husband was being shocked. Said it felt like a mule kicked him in the chest. Doc took him back into surgery to fix a lead.... We are so confused and not getting answers. Has ANYONE experienced this???

It's uncommon but not unheard of for a lead to need repositioned, but I've never heard of anyone being shocked when they test it. Hopefully he's ok now that they've moved the lead. 

Normally when they test it, it is not painful. It puts it in a mode where it paces at a steady rate so if he paces a lot, it may feel odd. Then they'll turn it up and turn it down and do some other tests. My best analogy is the feeling when an elevator comes to a stop. The feelings go away as soon as they are done the test. /
