Anxiety suggestions

I'm a week in. I received and ICD after a fainting episode as a result of V-tach. It has been pretty scary. Who else is dealing with anxiety over their implant. I had another bad V-tach since and the machine registered nothing. Should I be concerned that the machine didn't catch it? I almost went down again this time.

ask to be seen

There are different parameters and settings are often adjusted once we've had it a few weeks. It probably caught the episode but sounds like it didn't fire, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It should only fire if it's life threatening. I'd call and ask to be seen, they can see what the device was doing at the time of the episode.

ICD

There  are different ways thewy can program an ICD to operate. Most often they will program it to perform ATP (anti-tachycardia pacing) during a tachycardia event when your heart rate reaches a certain set point. Most doctors will not set your device to provide a full Jesus Jolt during Tachycardia, only when Ventricular Fibrillation occurs. Most often people will not feel when ATP kicks in. However, if your heart rate is below that set point, you may actually feel your heart racing, but your device will not provide therapy or record the event. Not all fast heart rates are bad, and you don't want therapy when it's not necessary, wears you and the battery out. I would recommend you speak to your doctor and/or the device technician about how your device is set up and when it records events.

VT

I would bring it up next time you have your device interrogated, I've had similar experiences where I was certain I had a VT but the device registered nothing. Keep a log and just write down your symptoms and then compare it to the interrogation (I did this and it showed nothing).

I too still experience anxiety and other symptoms and I'm 26 months in, best of luck.

I'm 44, active and have had my device for two years. I love it as I can run again and enjoy working out without feeling like I'm an old man.
