Upper body toning

Hey guys! Hope everyone is doing fine...

I am 17 years old and used to do lots of weight lifting and ball sports before I had my pacemaker implanted just over a month ago. During the recovery phase I have been getting out of shape and I am looking to tone my body.

I have read among the forum here that as long as the pacemaker is not very near to the clavicle it should be fine to work on the chest and shoulders. How near would that be? According to my sense of touch, mine is roughly an inch or more below my clavicle...would that be fine? I understand that heavy lifting is not recommended and I am looking to do light-moderate weight lifting.

Thanks!

Lifting

I've lifted weights with a pacemaker for almost 30 yrs.   I've always favored heavy weights over light weights.  My only hangup has been if the bar touches the pacemaker it sort of stings, so I avoid resting the bar or touching  over the pm.

Don't jump back into exercise too quick.  Heal up.  I had my best marathon time and bench press when I was 46.  Have a great athletic life.

You don't want the bar to hit the device or leads. If the device is close enough to the clavicle that pressure on the clavicle will put pressure on the leads, then that's too close.

As long as it doesn't feel off, you should be able to lift as heavy as you want. I am three times your age, average height female. I deadlift more than my bodyweight and can jerk triple digits. My doctor is ok with it.

It probably feels like it, but you are not going to get too out of shape in a couple of months! You'll want to wait 2-3 months before getting back into anything heavy, then ease back into it so don't be surprised if it takes another month or two to bounc back. It comes back faster than you think it will.
