Battery

I forget the exact numbers but I've seen the estimated battery life on my St Jude jump around too, gaining a couple of years in a year's time.

Variable battery Life.

This is an estimate, and like all estimates may vary.

Think of your motor car, calculating the ``range " which relates to fuel capacity, and other variable factors eg. wind, weight, tyres, driving mannerisms etc. This is not exact science, even if your car does dispaly a figure.  Your pacemaker check up is the same.

On the day of checking, the battery may be doing very well, with little use that day- the calculation of capacity v. use would be good, giving you a longer time. If you have your heart rate higher, then the battery life would be less etc.

Battery life depends on use, threshold for capture of the heart's electrics, resistance, etc. The night time setting should be suffient to stop you going dizzy should you suddenly get out of bed, otherwise the lower the setting the less the battery is used.

There are multiple factors involved in battery life. What you need to know is when you battery needs replacing, and your annual check up gives you plenty of time to get this sorted, doesn't it? Otherwise, we would be seen every week would we not? The check ups do become more frequent as the battery is getting to the end of its working life.

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
