Confused!!

I contacted my Dr to see if I can use my Garmin Vivo fit wrist tracker, he said to contact the company. They said it should be no problem but check with my Dr first!!! What????

So does anyone out there have an idea if I can use this thing with my Pacemaker! I would like to use it again. Feel lost without it. ( not that I am moving much yet only 6 days out) But, would like to track sleep at least! Thanks in advance!

They are safe

They are safe, but be aware that I just read an article published by docs at the Cleveland Clinic. They did a study and found that these devices are pretty useless in terms of accuracy. Obviously, their study was pretty much confined to heart rate accuracy. So the other functions may be great.......don't know?

Using a Jawbone

I'm wearing a Jawbone UP3, which is also a step/sleep/pulse counter. I got my PM two weeks ago and put my band back on two days later. It never occurred to me that it might be a problem. I mentioned it to the doctor and he wasn't concerned.

I think the Vivo is an optical pulse technology, so I can't imagine there is any concern at all. My Jawbone is a bioimpedance technology - tiny amount of current across the skin - very low amount of energy and low frequency, I believe. Shouldn't be an issue, especially so far away from the PM.

My band measures resting heart rate but not instantaneous heart rate - it's not fast enough. Yours is fast enough, I believe. My PM is set to 50 and now my heart rate app shows it bottoming out right about there. However, there are a few points below that now and then, so I assume the band is inaccurate. Prior to surgery, my resting heart rate was often around 45 so I'll discuss the setting with my doctor in two weeks.

I know it's silly, but I like tracking all this stuff even if I already know whether I walked a lot or slept well.

not silly

I just sent ahead and did it since man people on here said it was ok!!Thank you all for the help!! Keep on tracking!!  Ileen

Fitness Tracker

I have a new pacer also and have invested in a Polar A360 for the same reasons. I tracks my bpm, sleep and activity. I have tested it against the machines as the Dr.'s office and while not 100% accurate, I find it is close enough for me.

The Vivo is non-magnetic so you should be fine.

I regularly use a Garmin GPS Watch.  Both with the wrist based hear rate monitor and with a chest strap HR monitor.  I also have used other brands.  All work, none cause me any troubles.

good luck

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
