Well I had my pacemaker fitted in October last year and at my 1st check up at hospital they said battery will last at least 7years. I don't know if battery is affected by rate of pacing? My pm is pacing 17% at the moment. Anyway they won't let the battery run right down!

best wishes and good health

It might depend on whether you have the ICD (defibrillator) or not. I don't and my doctor said 10 years. I just got it last month. I asked him about the whether it is pacing all the time or only infrequently, and the doctor said it had very little impact on battery life.

My first device was implanted Jan 2011. They changed it out in Jan 2016 due to low battery. I  was told the new model will last twice as long.

Hi There.

How long your battery lasts depends on a number of factors.  Surprisingly, there are a lot of "bells and whistles" on our devices and whether those are turned on has a tremendous affect on battery life.  So while we all tend to think (at list initially) that battery life is mainly tied to how frequently we're paced, that is just one factor of many that will determine how long it will last.

And remember: when it's time for a battery change, it's actually the entire device (sans the leads) that is changed, not just the battery.  That's good news since they are constantly upgrading our devices, making them better and better.

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
