How to remember not to raise your hand above your head

Hi,

I just got a pacemaker two days ago.  I am not supposed to raise my arm above my shoulder and find myself already forgetting and doing it.  Are there any tips or tricks to remind yourself not to raise the hand?

Thanks so much!

Don't volunteer for anything!   :)

Seriously, most of us have done it at some point in the beginning.  Do not use a sling...that will cause frozen shoulder....a new set of problems.

Some have used a tie around their waist and wrist if needed.  Use your arm, just try to be mindful above your shoulder.

Thanks both for your comments.  I have removed the sling and started moving my arm.

Hi,

I used a sling, but only while I was sleeping.  During the day I made sure to move my arm.  I was fine.

I used my sling only when I slept. And during the day I moved my arm just not above my shoulder for several weeks. I was fine this way.

Lifting Arm Above the Head

I used my sling day and night for about a week and a half, maybe a couple of days longer. Doctor's office said to use it for a couple of days. I did move that arm, and if I raised it, it was nowhere above my head. came close to forgetting a few times. The sling was a good reminder.  I used my dominant side for many things. Still do.

I live by myself so there is no one else to rely on. I still have to put away my indoor Christmas tree and decorations because the storage boxes are in the garage. And I have to lift my arms above my head. A ceiling light bulb burned out in my laundry room last week. Inital thought was to go get the aluminum ladder and change it. I did not. Things will just have to wait until I can get to it or wait until I have a few projects for the handyman.

No sling!

I didn't have any problems remembering not to put my arm above my head or use it much, but for sleeping I recommend using an oversize shirt and don't put your PM side arm through the sleeve.

I sleep with a pillow on the left side of my body to keep my arm in place. My wrist is basically tucked under the pillow.

It's been a pain sleeping only on my back because I am a side sleeper. I may try the oversized shirt techniqe with my arm not in the sleeve tonight. I have to keep my arm down for 10 more weeks. This is tough!

Grateful heart is right, stay away from the sling. I got terrible frozen shoulder which delayed my recovery. Try keep your arm tucked into a shirt. At least the arm will be free to move but not go over your head
