Drag Racing

I have what some may consider an odd question. Has anyone in the club got into drag racing since they've had their pacemaker? 

I've had a pacemaker for 25 years now. I got my first one when I was 5. I'm not one to sit on the sidelines and watch life pass by. I have an interest in drag racing and am looking to connect with anyone who has a pm and still enjoys the hobby. My main question would be, has anyone taken the nhra license medical?

Imagine having a dizzy spell at the end of the race  ..  this may have happened ''back in the day"  and more than once  ... guessing , of course  ..maybe an answer to an unexplained accident  from a long time ago  .   The PM is indeed wonderful , But I would not care to compete against one with  unresolved problems ..

....................how I envy the fact that you even go to drag races !.  For myself I cannot see any reason why you cannot race.  Now the question of the mixture of ignition and high acceleration rates might need looking at but to my untutored eye the ignition levels would be no higher than a truck or a Lamborghini..so..this leaves the Acceleration matter..

Now if you were a runner then this might affect your Rate Response setting....but you will be just sitting there..(  so to speak )...so maybe its about the adrenaline effect on your heart...?

How about writing a letter to Hot Rod Magazine and asking its readership the same question ?...I bet that you'll get some interesting responses !

What class would you race in.....maybe you should keep away from the AA/FD boys if you want to keep your heart rate down !!!!

Drag Racing

Hey DS78127: I Have not engaged in anything on the strip lately.  I own a newer Nissan Altima with the V6 capable of low 14's in street trim.  Previous cars were a  C/MP '64 Vette that ran high 11's back in the day,  (Believe me, a Vette's IR suspension is NOT conducive to drag racing!) Then a tricked out '57 small block powered Chev that easily made mid-13 sec. passes, and an '86 Buick Turbo Regal that would consistantly run low 12's @ 107 - 110 mph on 10 inch slicks.  I ALWAYS felt my best on race day!? Raced at Englishtown, NJ - Atco, NJ - Brainerd, MN - Rock Falls, Wi and here I am, a 71 year old who still likes to get his butt pressed into the seat by a 4 second 0-60 car! Last 1/4 mi pass was in the mid 1990's in a H/SA Turbo Regal that required no NHRA license.

Drag Racing

It's nice to see that others out there are racing! To be honest I've never seen an issue with it and I was really just wondering if anyone had some good stories. 

When I originally posted this question I was looking into racing rail cars fitted with a small block Chevy. From my research I discovered that combination would run low 9's in the 1/4 without much engine modification. That's where the NHRA question came into play. I believe anything under 10 seconds requires a license. 

Things have changed a little since I posted that question though. Luckily for the better. I'm no longer looking into racing a rail car. I am looking at taking my newly acquired 1968 Camaro RS/SS to the track to see how she performs. 

Great opportunites seem to happen out of the blue. If my pacemaker can handle the excitement I had buying that car I'm sure it'll handle a 1/4 mile track!

If I had my choice, the ride I would greatly appreciate would be the 2014 Cadillac CTS-V Station Wagon with the 556 HP Supercharged GM V-8 & 6-speed manual trans. (When's the last time you saw a Caddy with a stick?)  -  Low 12's @ 115 MPH means you could haul groceries while hauling azz!
