It can take 6 months to a year for the device to fully settle in.  Pain is individual so it's hard to say.  The pulling on the scar feeling can vary depending on your activities or even just certain movements.  I can still feel tugging at times....and it's been 8 years.

Has the pain lessened since the implant?

I agree with the previous commenter, I don't have any consistent pain 27 months post implant, but if I move the wrong way it feels like my ICD is trying to peel away from the flesh on the inside.

Scar

Even though the scar looks healed on the outside, healing is still going on on the inside, nerves are regrowing, and your body is still adjusting to having a "retrofit."

Like Grateful Heart, even after 5 years, I occassionally have a pulling sensation in the area. I find that in the winter time, my scar gets very dry and itchy. A little bit of cocoa butter or scar salve makes it more comforable.

really appreciate the above comments. I am 5 days out from my PM/defib surgery....also had the removal of the large SICD from my side.  I'm doing ok healing...but feel tired, grumpy...or course cant sleep comfortably yet.  ALso, even with an anti-nausea pill, the pain meds made me too sick to take.
