New pacemaker

Hi All, just had a pacemaker implanted 1 week ago. Went back to work 5 days after. Never had any heart issues prior to this, so am still adjusting to my new reality. Don't really feel any big improvement in fatigue or energy level since surgery, but, hoping that will improve. My first follow up checkup with cardiologist is a week from Monday. Will probably relax a little more after that. Thanks for this group. I think it'll be a real help in the future.

New PM

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Had the PM implanted 3 and a half weeks ago. Came out of nowhere for me. Felt weak and nearly passed out so I went to the ER. My heart stopped twice before they put in the PM and 2 stents in my middle heart artery.

Felt really crappy the first week but I've been getting better gradually. I think the meds have been part of it but also the feeling that I'm not in control of my own body.

Haven't slept thru the night even once since the surgery. My minimum heart rate is set at 60, which I think is pretty common. Waking up at 3am, 60 feels like a damn freight train. This is getting better as well as I get used to it.

All this sucks but I'm still alive, so I'm not really feeling bad about any of it. It's a small price to pay for being alive. I've gotten a lot confidence/comfort hearing what others in the club have gone thru.

Hang in there it gets better!

I got my pacemaker four years ago when I was seventeen. Your energy should improve, mine did, and it might take awhile to get use to having it since your body hasn't built up scar tissue yet and it probably hasn't settled all the way. I sometimes forget I even have one because it doesn't bother me most of the time, I would definitley ask your doctor plenty of questions that you may have. Even if it seems like a silly question, it is better to know than to not know. Good luck!

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
