New development

When I first got my pacemaker 5 1/2 years ago, except for SSS, my heart was perfectly healthy.

Since then I"ve developed a little of this, a little of that. A little mitral valve regurgitaion, a little pulmonary hypertension, a little micro vascular disease with Ranexa to relieve the symptoms. (no test for MVD so you can't know, you just guess.) And 6 months ago, near-syncope due to intermittent LBBB.

So far, nothing so bad that something has to be done about it.

Last night, I was pulled out of sleep about 4 times by feelings like I my heart was doing a long pause, then starting up again. Like something has stopped air coming in for a second or two and then a heart thump that shakes my whole body and then the heart rate returns to normal.

It feels like a PVC, but the biggest, worst PVC you ever had.

I'm not sure what to ask. Maybe I don't really have a question. I think I just wanted to share with some people who will understand and not conclude I'm neurotic for feeling my heart do something unusual.

Thanks.

PVC

I've been there, as far as I know mine have just been BIG pvc's and it's basically a feeling of "umm did my heart just stop". I feel like it was at its worst when I was on my largest dosage of medications, made my breathing feel very shallow especially for someone my size and age. Best of luck.

I feel like we (the people who contribute to the website) should be getting paid by big pharma/medical for this information!

INTERESTING

My heart does so many things, I just relax and let it happen. I guess I gave up trying to figure it out a long time ago.  I do know how I choose to live my life does affect how my heart works.  If I am not careful about exercise, choice of food intake I get into trouble.  My emotions also play a big role in how well my heart functions.

So sorry you are having more troubles

I just saw this message you wrote. I just sent you a message about something you sent me. Kinda about waking up with skipped beats. I get really big ones too. They are really kind of painful. Doc, says, that they are normal. Sure don't feel normal! I think the fact you are waking out a sleep with them, maybe you should talk to Dr. I have sleep apnea. That is  reason I get some at night. Don't know if you do. I think you should call the Dr because this is a change for you. I pray you will be fine and get an answer. You have been so very kind to me. Hugs, ileen

Happens to me too sometimes too.

Hi there,

Its Narelle here I have had pacemakers for the last 42 years.. lost count - Im only 57... but only for 3rd degree Heart Block (which is rare but only an issue of a slow heart beat)

You should check what time it happens and if it happens every night at that time.  My pacemaker is a Medtronic and if you ask the technician for a copy of the read out at your next check... It has a time on it that it runs diagnostics every night mine is about 1.00am.  It also has a list of times and dates that you have experienced runs of arrhythmia and mode switching... I used to go through mine with my cardiologist and match it up to my diary - we would have a laugh -  but it just validated that everything was normal... and some of the funny feelings where just part of having a pacemaker.

Sounds like what your having is the big ectopic beats the big k-thuds as I call them.. Sometimes Ill have then on and off for a week or so and then they just dissapear... I think its stress!  Ive made the pacemaker technicians keep monitoring till one happens we captured 3 in a row once...

You definately need to check for yourself though as everyone with a pacemaker has it for a different reason and if your worried, check and get reassured and then you can stop focusing on it.   When you focus on it it gets worse.

Cheers Narelle - Australia

I know I have more irregular beats when I'm under stress, especially if I get over- tired, but it's so easy to think, "It's okay. I'm handling it."

In fact, I have been sitting with a friend who is making her transition and needs the reassurace of someone with her. Sometimes I'm there for 6-8 hours. Apparently, I needed your reminders to see the connection.

If it happens again, when I'm well rested, I'll contact the doctor. For now, I think I'll save the $40.00 co-pay.

Thanks to all.
