...rejected!  I wanted to say "You walk."  But good taste told me that you were too new for that.

Here's the real scoop:  walk up to the TDA agent (Or whatever they cal them where you live) & tell them that you have a PM, then follow their instructions.  Some scanners are PM friendly, others (of an older generation) are not.  the agent will know which is which.

In 2017, it ceases to be a real problem.

thank you so very much Donr. I appreciate your humor and your answer.  I am a senior (69) and I was worried about how to handle this. thanks again.

my experience...

After  had my first ICD implanted, I was told not to go through any of the scanners, x-ray or magnetometers, at airports. My doc said the x-rays machines are supossed to be safe however he would rather not take that chance. So I just let TSA know that I have a medical implant and need to do the pat down. I have never had a problem. They have always been kind and courteous to me during the process. I've often been told that one machine is safe and I just explain that my doctor told me not to go through any of the machines and there's no further mention of it. They call for "Female Assist" for a pat down and that's all there is to it. As Donr said, just let them know and they will guide you. Best of luck.

old vs new

Once upon a time we could not walk through and needed a pat down. Then along came the 3D scanners which are xray, not metal, so I used to request them. If they were not available, get a pat down. Now with my newest one, my doctor and rep both said that it's not an alloy that will set off a metal detector nor will the detector harm it, so walk on through. I've had this one a year now and have walked through without saying anything at airports, cruise ships, government buildings, concerts. No issues whatsoever.

TSA Check Point

I have traveled since getting my device. In the US you can go through the "chamber" detector, the one where you put your ams above your head and cannot have any paper in your pockets.

I am told we cannot go through the one that looks like a a doorway. It won't hurt the pacer, but will disrupt it temporarily.

I have TSA Pre so I go through the "Known Traveler" line. I tell them I have a Pacer and prefer the pat down.

It's all pretty easy. I'm heading out of the country next month, I'll let you know how it goes for international travel.

All best, Rico

I'm about to go to the airport this summer and I will be requesting a pat down as I did today in the Federal Building. The staff were kind and understanding as I flashed my Medtronic ID card. I live in the city so they see this stuff all the time. She asked if she could use the wand and I said I'd rather not as this little computer is worth a mint $$$. Next time it will be a huge plus if I get a HOT TSA guy to do a pat down. Just kidding 😉
