Different pacemaker

Hi,

lts been a few years since l have been on here simply because things have been so good. Had my yearly check up & the doc seems to think l may benefit from a different type of pacemaker. The main problem l have is when l walk my heart feels very irregular & seems to be working against the PM if that makes sense?which then causes me to become breathless. Apart from that l feel pretty good, anyway l have a heart monitor on for 24 hrs to see what happens when l walk. My current PM is  VVI model which means nothing at all to me what l was wondering is what other types are there? My doc offered no info but he probably noticed the gormless expression on my face & decided not to waste his time!!! Any ideas please, but please don't get technical with me, thanks x

It is great to hear from you again. Your sense of humour has been greatly missed !

If you think your gormless expression is a really attractive look then carry on with it ; otherwise you may want to ask your cardiologist a few questions . For starters you could try " Has my heart condition changed in some way ? "

As you know the VVI mode means that your PM has  only been  interested in your bottom chambers ( the ventricles ) . It has been watching to see if your ventricles contract when they should and then putting in extra beats when needed.

I remember that you have " enjoyed " ( maybe the wrong word ) afib for some time so your upper chambers must be going mad . I assume that your PM has accepted this and that you have relied on drugs for your afib .

Maybe your cardiologist now feels that you would benefit from having your upper chambers paced as well , maybe he thinks that the right and left sides need synchronising . There are stacks of possibilities. We are all different so you need to ask your Dr what has changed.

As you can tell, I haven't a clue how to answer your question so, like you, I will sit here with a gormless expression

Best of luck, and great to have you back

lan l was hoping you were still here, causing mayhem, what about "The Tattman" is he still your partner in crime?                        Thanks for answering my question, as far as l am aware my cardiologist is more than happy with the state of my heart, echo showed heart muscle was doing what it should, metal valve clicking away quite happily, even my blood pressure was that of someone half my age, it's just this walking thing even 10 minute ones & my heart seems completely out of sync & l get to feel a bit "woozy". Yet l can potter around shops literally all day with no problems it's just actual physical walking !                  Anyway l see cardio in a couple of months so will see what he has to say .......whether l understand or not is another matter!                                          So pleased you are still handing out help & advice lan, you were a huge help to me in the early days & l really think this site & its people helped me to get to the state where l actually forget l have a PM .......or maybe that is me being "gormless" again!         Sue x
