feeling the pacemaker

As a new member and only just getting used to my p.m. which was fitted on 6/1/2017

I have had my first check up and all fine.

The other night I woke up with a start and out of breath for a couple of seconds, at the same time I thought I felt the pacemaker  pulsate a couple of times, this was where the p.m. was located.

Is this normal to feel it pulsate occasionally?

Thank you.  Jillygirl.

One possibility is that you were experiencing the pacemaker self- check which is set to occur at the same time every day , usually in the early hours of the morning.

This checks your pacing voltage and can cause your heart-rate to momentarily speed up; sometimes it can make you skip a beat. If you repeatedly experience a similar feeling at the same time then this could be the cause.

I had my self-check turned off but they will only do this after you have had your PM for some time.

There may be other causes, mention it at your next check-up

Best of luck

Nerve / Muscle Twinges?

If you were going to feel the pacemaker pace then surely it would be in the heart region rather than where the pacemaker itself is located. I've always assumed (rightly or wrongly) that twinges in the pacemaker region are more nerve or muscle related.

Pulsating

I get a pulsating sensation sometimes, I feel it's likely the tissue around my ICD getting irritated from having my left arm/shoulder in an awkward position.

out of breath

I received my PM four months ago.  I had only had it for one week when I had a sharp, excruciating pain in the PM site area into what felt like my heart.   It was in the middle of the night and I was out of town at the time. I took a nitro pill and eventually it passed. I was told it was probably just nerve pain from the recent implant.  Who really knows. I've not had another pain quite like it, just other chest pains that a nitro pain can handle.  I have two leads to keep the electrical current operating evenly. (Apparently, my chambers have a communication problem.)  My three month checkup with the PM tech shows everything working ok. Doc says everything good to go, at least for another 6 months.  I also have faulty heart valves which produces a large heart murmur and still causes me to have shortness of breath, but my doc says exercise and time should hopefully improve that problem.  One day at a time is my mantra

Don't hesitate to mention your issues to your doctor.  It's probably nothing, but don't be afraid to call and ask questions.  Good luck and welcome to the "Ticker clickers!"

Thank you all for your replies,   At least I feel re assured.  I havent had a problem since, but will mention it on my next visit.

I wasn`t too worried just me  trying to work out how these things affect you.  :)

Yesterday was my first day mountain biking after my implant. I wiped out several times and everything is fine. There are sports after pacemakers!
