upcoming esp test

hi all thanks for having me. newby here just signed on. Well lets see i have had history of cad

61 year old male in great shape but with past history. newver open heart surgery but do have 5 stents over the course of the last 22 years. Ive just recently had my yearly run of tests and i thought all were going great. after all said and done my cardio said all good except now my ef is anywhere between 35% and 40%. stress test revealed i went to 97% of my mhr with an 11.7 on the bruce mets protocol. 10 minutes but had some pvcs during stress and recovery. He said look at this stage of your life and history lets do angiogram to rule out blockage. A week ago it was performed and all good. Now he advises that we do an esp test to check out why i had some brief tradycardia of 145 beats reported while on my 24 hr holter. well needless to say im an anxious person and with all i read on internet im seeing myself imitate benjamin franklin holding a kite if i have an icd implanted . so many posts on internet about inappropriate schocks etc. any reassuring comments here would help me a great deal . god bless all who has the courage fighting heart disease......geez i know i havnt had the thing implanted in me and the test is in 2 days march 10     ...... thank alot xkro

how did it go?

I dont have an icd.  My EF went down to 35 over the last year, but it is because of 30 years of having a two lead pacer, am going to get a three lead in the next few weeks and that should restore my EF some in months.

The pacer side of the ICD is no big deal, better to have it than be at risk without.  And I have not actually looked but I wonder if the ICD size today is similar to the relatively huge pacer I had 30 years ago.  My current one is so wee bitty compared to my first.

I think you are on the right website though, I was happy to see I wasnt the only one out there looking at a near lifetime of pacers.  A number of ICD folks on this site that can share experiences.

Hi dwelch

i did indeed receive my icd on Friday 10th . Dr induced me into an arithmia unfortunely . Now I'm trying to come to grips with my anxieties and some depressions . I have had heart issues the last 22 years so this was to be expected . So many "what if" . I'm trying to stay involved with online support groups like this one. I'm now into 4 th day post op . I thank you for your post. Have a great day.
