I don't know about symptoms but when I had a bad lead they found out when my device was interrogated.
check your pulse

Ask them or even better get a printout, so far I ask for and get a printout every time I go, I understand some docs/techs are not as willing to do that. But if nothing else know what your lower limit setting is. Take your pulse FOR A FULL MINUTE and see how it compares to that number, that got me through any/all periods of anxiety.
I was born with heart block back before pacers were common, so 19 years without one and could take my pulse by simply looking at a clock, the rushing sound was in my ear constantly it was normal. first pacer left a huge hole, that sound and feeling in my chest went away, but taking my pulse and knowing what my limit was confirmed I did not have a mild case of death, and the thing was working...
Plus counting for 60 seconds very likely is mentally calming as well...

It depends...

It depends on how dependent you are. If you're highly dependant then your symptoms would be fainting, or a mild case of death. If your dependency is less, your symptoms would be less in proportion.
