Lead Placement

Hi all,

i have been suffering significant blood pressure drops since my pacemaker implant in December 2015. I was diagnosed and treated for AF , Atrial Flutter SSS and recently SVT

from a lying position to standing it can drop between 20/30 points which as you can imagine makes you very lightheaded to the point I need to grab hold of something as I feel I'm going to pass out.

it does not happen all the time so it's confusing as to what triggers it off.

ive had a full blood screen done and it's fine hovever I was told that the lead placement in the heart is very important.

if they are placed in the incorrect location it can cause your blood pressure to drop.

has anyone experienced this or had similar problems

thanks

warren

Medications

Are you on medications? I get pretty bad postural hypotension and always have to get up slowly or I will get very very dizzy and have actually fainted a few times. I believe bisoprolol is the main cause of this with me.

Also make sure you stay hydrated.

I've never heard of lead placement affecting bp, but I'm no professional so who knows. Meds for afib and svt are also blood pressure meds, so ask about that. it's possible that what controls the afib and svt is also causing the bp drops. If you haven't had one, ask for a tilt table test. That will diagnose if changes in position cause a vasovagal response which causes bp to tank. If that's what it is, it can be treated with diet and meds.

bp drop

LIkely not the lead . That said my wife has very old leads and we are facing extractions very soon.

Anyway she started passing out for maybe a second or two and then comes back but doesn't know what happened.

Cardiologist just a few days earlier said everything looked good.

Then two trips to ER due to her passing out more than I would like prob several times random over ten days or so. Anyway the only reason I mention this as it was suggested we put a monitor on her just to rule out the leads and or battery ( btw ) she was interrogated in the ER as well and all said was good.

Then blood draws ets.

Anyway sure enough the 48 hour monitor picked up a mis fire or failure to capture for just a nano second , so as it turned out sounds like her lead is fractured.

Good luck, hoping ours turns out well.
