bruising size

Bruising is normal after the pacemaker implant but I had a large bruise down to near the bottom of my left chest and near past middle of my left arm.  Is this normal?

IMO, the bruising is not normal   ..  I never had any , only a slight soreness and a little scar  .. Check with your doctor  ..  monitor the area, no provblem if it  ''goes away'' ., IMO.

I just had a pacer placed and I did have bruising under my arm and down my side. I called about it and they said not to worry unless it gets feverish

After my second implant, my chest and arms looked like the entire pro golf tour walked all over me with their cleats...I lived.

Contrary to others beliefs, bruising is normal and how severe is dependent on a lot of factors such as how easily you bruise, whether you take aspirin or a blood thinner regularly, and just how rough the surgeon was. They don't always gently place the device. Stop worrying

Thank you all.

Thank you all for your help through your experiences.

My surgeon was a newbie.  My scar is ugly.  The large area bruise is now gone.  But I started having breathing problems I never had before so I was concerned that my leads were not placed correctly.  I had the implant early Aug. 2016 and have had nothing but more problems.

...Brit scientist who invented a cookie - Sir Isaac Newton!

You have discovered gravity!!!!!  If you have any bleeding w/i the area where the surgeon cut, gravity will pull it toward the center of the Earth.  Lie on your back for a longf time, it winds up in the armpit; stand/sit - in the area below the breast.  There are all sorts of pathways between the muscles where the bood can seep & flow as it wends its way Earthward.  It leaves bruising behind, which is just coagulated blood.

I once had a bruise that started in my right buttocksa & eventually wound up including my big toe!  It appeared behind my knee, behind my heel & along the top of my foot.

Patch is correct about all the factors that can affect the extent of the bruise

Noty a big deal unless it becomes fewverish & sore at spots other than the source of the blood..

bruising

Long sotry short. It can be. On my initial brusing at sight only and minor. ON reimplant the entire upper right side was black and blue. From sternum to shoulder.

My reimplant was placed on the right side.

I asked my ep about this and he said they achieved near perfect positioning with the leads, but that soemtimes to do so they might not be too gentle. My pm is a crt-d and it was implanted under muscle this time. They popped my shoulder out of place to adjust my body to place the leads.

I told him don't even tell me the rest.

Beware

I went for a 2nd opinion because I began to have breathing problems I didn't have before the pacemaker implant, recommended after one short stress test and probably my age.   Due to the problems, I was put on statin, aspirin and given an angiogram test.  I was told I will have a stent if my blockage is over 60% and on a very strict diet if in tghe 50s.  I used to feel too good to have a heart problem so I was shocked by all of this.  I grudgingly agreed to have the pacemaker implanted but it was newbie who make an ugly scar and large bruises.

It turne out the angiogram showed my arteries were CLEAR!  This was done at a Chicago hosp. with good rep.  But it wasn't the 1st mess up.  Yet they wouldn't check the pacemaker for problems I was having and gave me tests after tests including CT-scan for my lungs a pulmonologist said I didn't need because I didn't have a lung clog.

The 2nd doctor at another hosp. (U. of C.) decided without giving me any tests, that the problem was my pacemaker, had the tech from the pacemaker co. check my pacemaker and found my heart was able to pace on it's own and turned off (lowered the kick in to 40 which is never).

I am very upset about all this as I am still having problems with the 2nd lead that controls heartblock type 2, only I am having erratic BP, pulse (not rapid) and episodes of Arrhythmia throughout the day I never had before (only infrequently when I walked fast).  I regret the day I mentioned the rare times I felt the breathing discomfort to the doctor.

Mayo Clinie or Cleveland Hosp. takes a couple of days to monitor and evaluate you before a pacemaker is implanted or not.  It should not be decided on siblings who had not exercised and had problem, or age.

Had lots of bruising

If you are on anticoagulants, you may get more bruising than others. I had bruising across my check and down to my elbow. I was concerned and went in to the EP doc, who said it was normal. Took about six weeks for the bruising to go away.

You could take a pic and send it to the doc's office and see if there is cause for concern. If it's inflamed or hot, I'd go the office.

i too had a big bruise like half a red/blue vest (including on my back) after getting my three-lead pacemaker.  I was on warfarin and aspirin until about two days before surgery since they were afraid of causing a third stroke.  Sent pictures to my doc, but he was not worried.
