Mammogram after Pacemaker implant

I have seen some posts relating to how long women should wait before safely having a mammogram performed. Just wanted to share with everyone that I had one done on 3/16, exactly 3 weeks post op. My EP gave the go ahead, just said to make sure the wound was healed and that I adhered to the arm restrictions and if they had any questions to call him. My tech had to use a few tricks to get a second picture but she was very gentle and it was just the usual discomfort. But my test was not an annual check, it was kinda rushed. So I am sure they would prefer waiting longer in most cases, but it can be done. I did have about 3 or 4 pains around the PM this morning that made me wince but nothing since. Btw, I did have an abnormal mammogram and had to have an ultrasound. I hope they got a good reading because I couldn't raise my arm (the PM side). Hopefully I will hear back soon about it.

Mammogram

I too was concerned about having a mammogram after a pacemaker implantation, especially since I am a 3 year breast cancer survivor and will not miss any mammos. I was told it would be fine as long as the tech knows what to do.  My next mammogram is in April and will be about 9 weeks post-op.  I am worried about the side view that tends to stretch the tissue a lot (ouch).  I will report back afterwards.  In the meantime, I hope your ultrasound was normal and you don't have to deal with any more health issues!

Thank you EllenMary

First off, you are an inspiration to me and congratulations on your 3 year mark!!! That's wonderful! This month actually makes me a one year breast cancer survivor. I am glad you are staying on top of your mammos; this is my first one post BC surgery, chemo and rads. It really should have been done sooner but I had other issues going on and I guess it got brushed aside. Yes, that side view is the one that caused the issue getting a good picture, She said I was causing her to have to think, haha. She had to use a different plastic "vice" or whatever they call it, :) I actually had some pain last night from the mammo but I was surprised the PM area was ok. She did say she wondered why he did not place it up higher considering. But I am actually thankful; he put it under the muscle and it is very inconspicuous. Whatever they are seeing must be solid because she said they may tell me to watch it or biopsy etc. Said it could be scar tissue. ( I had a lumpectomy). I know they are not supposed to tell you anything so I didn't push it too much. Besides, my original tumor was only visible on the mammogram; never felt or seen on the ultrasound. Well thanks again for reaching out and I hope all goes well on your upcoming test. Hope we can stay in touch!
