A Celebration

I am very blessed and thankful. Fifty (50) years ago this week I had my first pacemaker implanted. I was at Children's Hospital in Denver Colorado. Back then it was open heart surgery with a 3 week stay in the hospital. . I am 100 percent dependant. Since then I have had many replacements, as the first ones lasted only 2 years. Through the years with technology they last longer and longer and have advance so much. I've been extremely blessed and watched over, as I have never had any complications and take no medication. I had two children, and adopted 2 others, and have many grandchildren now. I am thankful for my parents who  were brave and had faith, and for the many doctors and medical staff  that took such good care of me. Above all ....God is good.

Thanks so much for posting your story. I had emergency surgery on March 7 to implant a CRT in Denver area and I'm still wrapping my head around it. Reading your story really helped.

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
