Gym and heart rate

So I went to the gym yesterday for the first time in awhile and I'm a little concerned. I got on the elliptical and within 2 minutes my HR jumped to 175 as per Apple Watch and I felt it but then I got on treadmill and I was fine..why is this happening?? Anyone else experience this?

.................................this matter points to the fact that HR Monitors are often 'confused' by nearby pulse transmissions.  When cycling alongside fellow riders I often saw crazy 'spikes' ....up into the 200's sometimes.

Many gym machines have their own built in transmitters that get your HR via the metal handgrips and then display on the screen.

I would be more inclined to trust the HR that the machine shows.  If you are on a machine without HR display then use your own device.

Let us know what you find out..

the handles ?

The handles on the elliptical have sensors to measure your heart rate. They could be interfering with the sensors on your pacemaker. For that reason I don't grip the handles if I am on a elliptical machine.  Not sure but why take the chance.

The thing is that when it said 170, I also felt it, my heart was beating fast and kinda hard..

Jack, the machine will not affect the pacer. The pacer may confuse the hrm, but not the other way around.

Pebarguen, you might want to talk to your doctor. If you use rate response, it may be jumping up too quickly which can be adjusted. Or it might be you, my rate goes up very quickly also. Or the machine/watch could be off.

Quickly jumping up is my normal. It doesn't fit any charts and it may not be normal for someone else, but I feel good and I passed my last stress test with flying colors so my doc said don't worry about the numbers. I push until I am sweating and breathing hard, until I can talk  but not sing, and call it good. Some days that's 140, other days it's 190. Most days I have no idea because I don't count unless I feel bad.

Thank you
