Need MRI

Hi all, been awhile since I have been on. My foot doc wants to do an MRI on my foot, ( thinks I have stress fracture, and it really hurts alot) Well, my heart dr, told me to go to a hospital in Jacksonville Fl. I called them, they said they dont do pacemakers at all. WELL< funny the guy was with the Doctor when I was there, the Metronics guy, ) He said yes, that hospital does them. I havve a MRI compatable pacemaker. Well, so now I called another hospital, they said EVERY hospital in Jacksonville Fl. can do them. But it takes about 2 weeks to get scheduled. Now, this is not good news. I am supposed to go on a cruise in the beginning of Sept . I may have to wear a boot for 8 to 12 weeks! Which, could throw my back out ( which I am now doing PT twice a week for!! , to be ready for the trip!!! GRRRRRR! Has anybody had such problems!! Do you think a CAT scan would do the job. I can have those anywhere!!! My my, but I am doing better and feeling better, except for the foot and back is much better!! Let me know guys, Thank you so much. I still feel yucky on bumpy roads by the way , but getting used to it ( some of you have the same problem! ) Thanks in advance, Ileen

I've had foot problems twice that warranted MRI, we discussed doing the MRI but got by with CT and/or ultrasound. Btw, my pm is not mri-safe but  my doc found a hospital locally that would still do it. I decided a sore foot wasn't enough reason to bother.

The boot shouldn't throw your back out. Get the PT to talk to you about what shoe to wear on the other foot. BTDT, spent 4 months in a boot when I had a bad back to start with.

I went to a conference in San Francisco in my boot, wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. My mobility was better in the boot than without because it no longer hurt to walk, so it didn't really keep me from walking the city. I got to preboard on the plane (next trip we took my husband and sister tried to convince me to wear the boot again, take one for the team so they could preboard lol). It was really only a problem in the rain. I took it off to get in the pool/ocean. As long as I wasn't weight bearing, the doc didn't care if I didn't wear it all the time. There are worse things to work around, jmho. And Sept is still a long way away. You probably won't be dancing in heels, but you may be able to get by by then in a supportive shoe at least some of the time.

Good luck!

Robin1 made a good point about asking again but to a different person.  The MRI techs should know the correct procedure. If you can ask the radiology people you will get a knowledgeable answer.

Thank you all for the advice. I am still struggling with knee pain from total knee replacement. last summer. I do wear good shoes, but not heavy.  ( The other knee needs surgery too) My doctor has decided to forgo any tests and just do the boot. I got it yesterday. It is a heavy monster! So much higher than my sneaker, I am getting an equalizer in the mail on Thursday. My back was already hurting last night. Woke up nervous. I will get my head around this thing eventually. Just hard now. Thank you all for your reply. I did call that hospital back, they were still rude! Oh well, we don't go there. ( Not a great one) I do not look forward to wearing 2 things all summer!! Life is tough sometimes!! ( My last summer was my knee) it's ok, never liked summer in Florida too hot! Thank you all for your help!!

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
