I cannot see any strain in a man tying shoe laces  -- we do need to stretch muscles , but carefully .. "Self tying shoe laces ?   a new one ! This, I cannot visualize ..

What is keeping you from tying your shoes?

Was your surgery was May 3? June 3 2017 would make you a time traveler and that is way more interesting than getting a pacemaker.

If you meant May 3, that would be about 4 weeks. I needed help tying my shoes for about a week after surgery. Bending over and pulling on the laces caused pain in the area of the incision. After about a week I was fine.

Of course, having had a "frozen" shoulder and not wanting another, I discarded the sling after 3 days and faithfully did my shoulder stretching exercises three times a day.

I wonder if, instead of new laces, you need some strength and flexibility exercises? If so, the sooner you tackle the problem, the easier it will be to fix. If you wait too long, the problem could become permanent.

Call your doctor, tell him/her you still can't tie your shoes,  and ask for referral to occupational therapy.

A problem that won't get better with time

Get over the fear of pulling out your leads. After four weeks, it's not going to happen. Right now you are stuck in a fear loop. You haven't moved your shoulder so it has become stiff and movememt is painful. So when you try to move, it hurts and you say, "Oh-oh. what if I'm pulling out my leads." So you are even more careful not to move your shoulder. So your shoulder gets stiffer. And now you are even more afraid. Because you feel something pulling, right?

The fear is not going to go away and neither is the pain until you confront it by trying to stretch. The only way to prove to yourself that it's safe is to  strectch your shoulder and arm is to do it. Gently. Slowly. A little bit at the time. Use some heat before you start stretcning to loosen things up. You can find shoulder streching exercises on the web.
