Fast / Pounding Heart Rate - Coffee ? Salt ??

Good Morning !!

So my standard morning breakfast has always been an everything bagel (poppies, sesame, onions, salt) with a cup of regular coffee.  Since my PM about 4 weeks ago, I've been having sort of pounding heart beats in the mornings (today 143/78 80 BPM) that last for about 2+ hours. After about the 2+ hours, it calms down to about 133/80 61 (BPM).

The heart beat also goed up at night with my nightime cup of coffee.

Am I seeing a pettern here?

My wife thinks it's the caffeine and salt.

Is my wife correct again as she usually is?

I'm 72 - Medronics Model ADTR01.  No complications from the surgery except for a very WICKED stiff neck that has mostly gone away.

Thanks for reading and if you have some feedback please.

Coffee, food, preservative etc.

Robin, I enjoyed your comments.  I've been gluten free for several years but since my big heart attack two years ago I'm on a plant based, no oil diet.  Recently I have eaten some wheat products with no very noticeable negative effects.  I did see something on the internet where at least one cardiologist thought gluten would be best eliminated for heart patients.  At a visit last week with my primary doctor I told him this diet is a  whole lot easier if I can have wheat products.  (Some good Trader Joe's bread, Ezekiel bread or a little homemade baking because it's pretty doable without eggs or oil but more complicated GF.). He said it's not the gluten      per se but all the other ingredients in the overprocessed items which are usually included in the wheat products.  My cardiologist said I could have one cup of coffee. (I don't have rhythm problems.). I don't like strong coffee and often have two small half cups with no problem.

I too put my son at about the same age as yours on the Feingold diet because he was borderline hyperactive.  One day I took him where they had hand-dipped Breyer's all natural ice cream.  I was feeling very pleased with my motherly good deed--and then I remembered "the cone."

Caffeine Update !! Now more likely

So this morning it was a onion bagel (not the everything that has salt) and decaf coffee.

Result was that my heart rate did not get up to the 80's.

So I'm bumed out that caffinated coffee may be off my list and I will have to say that my wife was right again !!

Stay well everyone !!
