Atrial fibrillation and flutter and beta blockers. Selective thinking.

Another 24 hours in acute coronary care this Monday ! Having stopped Flecainide ( I had a 90% stenosis of my coronary artery stented the other week) as it is contraindicated in coronary disease, I went back to exercise. Seemingly it was the Viennese Waltz that led me a bit of a song and a dance into the coronary care unit with atrial flutter. ( in spite of having had an ablation a couple of years ago).[ there was some debate amongst the medics as to whether it was flutter or fibrillation]

This time ( unlike November) I reverted into sinus rhythm overnight.

All the trouble I have had in the past with beta blockers has been meaningless ( see posts). I am now on Nebivolol. This is said to vasodilate coronary arteries, as well as to prevent AF. So far swimming is not too bad, table tennis is good, and dancing- well I have avoided the Viennese Waltz. Verapramil was stopped as it does not mix well with Nebivolol ( negatively inotropic)

I do think Nebivolol is more user friendly than sotolol or bisoprolol for exercise. It is said to be quite selective for the heart. I would expect few side effects.

I was most grateful for the care and kindness shown to me whilst in University Hospital Aintree, Liverpool, UK- yet again, well done the NHS.

I'm off to a dance lesson now, and then along to my table tennis club. Nebivolol is about to be tested. Beta blockers are supposed to keep you calm- they must be kidding!

Shall we dance?

Right now, for me, there's no doubt. The Vienese waltz would send me to the hospital. :-) Anything faster than a slow tango would probably do me in. But I miss ballroom dance so much. I'm hoping something can be done about my exercise intolerance.

I'm glad dance lessons are part of your day. Here's hoping the new meds will live up to their billing.
