I Got Mine Too
by SMITTY - 2009-10-27 12:10:03
Hello James,
I got my new pacemaker, Medtronic VERSA, on 10-22-09. Everything went fine. My only complaint was I was told to be there at 10 AM and to not drink or eat after midnight the night before. I did my part, but they didn't get around to doing the surgery until about 3:330 or 4 that afternoon. I'll admit I was a little grumpy by then as I don't usually got that long without a caffeine fix. I was home between 5:30 & 6 that afternoon. I've had the usual soreness which I have respected and not tried doing any pushups or chinups, but all in all it could not have gone better.
I got to tell them what settings I wanted on the new pacemaker, some of which (heart rate of 80) they did. I'm not sure about the rate response settings I requested but I'll find out about them on the 9th when I have a checkup and I can live with what I have with no problem until then. On that famous pain scale of 1 to 10, I have to say my pain has never exceeded a 3 and the 3 was for just a few minutes.
I've learned to take a shower each day using saran wrap and water proof tape to keep the bandage dry. The incision looks good. By good I mean no swelling, no leakage, or redness, 'cause it ain't all that pretty. The bandage comes off tomorrow and I don't foresee any problems.
I saw your note about yours and I hope you do well.
Thanks for asking.

Look who decided to come out of the lake and join us. Hello Ela-Girl, how are you young lady?
You know you're wired when...
Your pacemaker receives radio frequencies.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
