odd sensation

Hi everyone. Question, has anyone ever experienced a "thumping" sensation? Mine generally happens between the pacemaker and below. Sensation is like someone repeatedly flicking the inside of my chest with their finger (like you flick your siblings ear). Sometimes it lasts a few seconds, sometimes it happens intermittently over a few days/weeks. I have mentioned this to the doctor and the pacer clinic techs. Sometimes at readings there is activity around the same time, i do suffer from AFIB, but they said it was unrelated to that. Doctor cannot think of what it could be. My thinking that maybe there was a nerve in that area that could possibly be touching the maching? Thanks :)

Odd sensation

It may be a self test. Spoke with Boston Scientific at length about this very thing. It (the pacemaker) does a self test every 21 hours. (At least, that's the schedule mine is on.)  If my heart happens to be pacing at the scheduled time, it will skip it and go on to the next scheduled time. It was driving me crazy because I couldn't figure out what the tapping sensation was.  They also told me this function can be turned off if you ask them to. It doesn't bother me now that I know what's happening, so I'm ok with it.  Is it possible this is what you are feeling?  Maybe call your reps?

Self recoding ECG

I have just purchased a Kardia finger contact ECG recorder ( 1 line). It is marvellous at catching the odd arrhythmia. You get a recording from 30 seconds to a few minutes ( depending on how you set it up). It is fits into my wallet /pocket and is light, and uses my iphone as a recording device.  Ideal for travel.  You can store, print, e-mail your recordings.

Maybe you could try to catch on such a recorder your odd sensations?Could you be having some form of palpitation?

The Kardia recorder has detected my paroxysmal  atrial flutter, fibrillation, and a friend with left bundle branch block and multiple ectopic beats.

UK price for recoder was about £90. Cheaper in the USA.

hey, AS THUMB COAST says...

more than likely a self test/maintenance, i have boston scientific too and spoke to them at lengh. i recently had it turned off at the hospital and now i dont feel it at all.  just ask them to turn off (although not all cardiologist seem to know how to do this) so just push for it!! good luck

Similar thing

by CyclingDad - 2017-08-13 19:18:50

I had a similar thing in the first few weeks -- felt a bit like indigestion and a half dozen quick beats in exactly the same spot between my ribs on the left side. Annoying, but not painful. I was also finding the daily test disconcerting (happened at half past the hour, but not always the same hour -- and no one had told me to expect it!), so the PM technicians turned that off, and turned everything else down as low as possible. I haven't felt that twitching for a couple of weeks now -- not sure whether it was having the settings adjusted, or it was just bedding in, but it is worth trying turning off the test mode.

Thumping

My son has had that thump for over 3 years. If he lays on his left side ,I can put my hand on his rib cage and feel it. He has learned to live with it  but doesn't like the feeling. He has never been shocked  from his ICD.
