Other than a power saw and a jackhammer  what other things can't I do?  I am 75 female and my pm is set on 81.  I am visiting my 13 year old grandson in DC and I know he has big activities planned.  Is there some limit on what I can't do or just let my body tell me?  I know there will be lots of swimming and walking.  Please advise.  At home I do big time yard work and that seems ok.  Thanks for responding  Sarchie

What you can't do?

Unless your Doc has given you restrictions, really, there is nothing you can't do. As you suggested, let your body tell you. That is what I do. After 30 years of having my PM, there is really nothing I have not been able to do. Although I would not recommend it for anyone else, I have used a chain saw and worked around high voltage equipment without any problems. I even stood within inches of a hydro power generator at the Niagara Falls power plant. As my PM manufacturer advises; If something affects your PM, simply move away. So not to worry! Enjoy your trip to D.C.

Age and infirmity sometimes put limits on us. Pacemakers never.

Anything you could do before you got a pacemaker, you can do now. Except operate a jackhammer, of course. Assuming you ever could operate one. Don't know about you, but jackhammers and power saws were pretty much off the table betore I was 20. So I, for one, never felt the loss.

You are not less safe because you have a pacemaker. You are more safe.  In fact, you're more safe than people without pacemakers. Life is uncertain and sudden cardiac arrest can happen to people at any age. Before you got a pacemaker, your heart might have stopped suddenly and with no warning. Now, that you have a pacemaker, that's not going to happen.

Don't ask for limits. You can do anything you feel like doing. The pacemaker has given you a second chance. Now go out and enjoy getting together with your grandson.

ENJOY!

I don't even know what to say about that.  I am impressed.  Noone has said anything about other devices they only mentioned those two:  the chain saw and the jack hammer.  These items were mentioned with some tongue n cheek.  As if I looked like someone who would be using those items.  How do you even know if your pacemaker is affected?  When I first got mine in Dec. of 16 I had it adjusted because I felt like someone was jabbing me in the side.  Corrected that and all is well.  I have had it checked twice with the moniter (if that is what you call it)  And all is well.  Thanks for your information.  Your unique experiences are a great learning tooll  Sarchie

You know you're wired when...

Bad hair days can be blamed on your device shorting out.

To tell you the truth I never even give it a second thought. While growing up it never stopped me from doing anything and to this day my girlfriend or my kids need to remind me that I have one!
