Lead extraction

My daughter pearle is 5 She had operation they extracted the lead from vein & vein collapsed not able to use left vein again she's had it fitted in her abdomen not through the vein and this time fitted a duel pacemaker and decided not to use right Vein on her right side until she is bigger. I feel very worried now she has lost this left vein to insert a lead cardiologist said this is not something to worry about but surly this gives her less options in the future ??

Don't borrow trouble

Already, pacemakers that don't require any leads at all are on the market. By the time your daughter needs a new one, who knows what will be available? Rather than having fewer options, she will likely have more. Progress is on your side.

And in the meantime, no amount of worry on your part will change what has already happened. Your daughter is watching you to see how she should feel about her heart condition and her future. Spend the effort you are putting into worrying on raising a daughter who is strong, kind, resouceful, and confident of a brigth future.

Lead Extraction

I am sorry to hear that the extraction do not go well.

I would try and concentrate on helping your daughter recover and adapt to having the pacemaker the new position in the abdomen.  The pacemaker box will be more prominent in the abdomen so she may become more aware of the device.

I think it was wise not to use the right vein at this stage.  My daughter did not have her leads placed into her vein until a week before her 8th birthday. I am guessing that you may be under Birmingham Childrens.  If you are I am sure that they will come up with alternatives in the years ahead.

When this new pacemaker battery requires changing in approximately 5 to 8 years they will have the option of using the right. Childrens bodies are very resilient and do have a tendency  to heal themselves over time. In the years ahead the vein may heal itself and may become an option again in your daughters adult life.

Regards

Sue
