Pacing question .... does the pacing percentage increase over time?

Hello !!

About 120 in with a question about pacing.

When I first got "Sparky" I was pacing about 3% on the atria, now I'm at about 7 or 8%, and less then 1% on the ventrival. My pacing is only at night when sleeping.

In your experience does the pacing percentage go up as time goes on?

pacing

In 4 years my AP-VP went from 25% to 99%. My rate is set at 60 bpm minimum.  When I was trying to decide  on getting the pace maker I asked the electrophysiologist if I really needed it and  he told me If not then -----I would be needing it some day... He was right. .Now on my check ups the technicians tell me that my heart rate is somewhere under 30 bpm----they don't let it go down any lower before turning the pace maker back on. I sometimes wonder if my increase in pacing was  exasperated by my pace maker making my heart somewhat "lazy"??  I did have an underlying issue with a left bundle branch block and bradycardia for an undetermined period of time.  But I feel good at 75 years old and that is what counts.

It can take a few tries to get the settings adjusted to you, to find the balance between minimal pacing and feeling good. Each time they adjust, the percentage will change. Some conditions deteriorate, some stay the same, sometimes as we age new problems pop up and the pacer fixes them too.  As long as you feel good, don't stress over the numbers. There is no perfect amount of pacing, it doesn't necessarily mean anything bad if your numbers change. I've paced 100% since day one, which is typical for av block.

My first interrogation - pacing 33% atrium, 0 ventrical. Mine is set at 60 on the low end and my pulse was typically in the 50s on a good day so I'm surprised I'm not being paced more. It will be interesting to see how the percentage changes at my next device check.

As Tracey said, the most important thing is that you are feeling better and its helping. Don't get tripped up by the numbers.

Many of us pace 100% from the beginning.

Don't fret....you get what you need.  :)

I have had my PM for almost 4 years and it is now pacing for 97% of the time at 60bpm.

Not sure what it was running at prior but I don't think it was as high as 97%.

I am seeing the cardio in a few weeks so I will find out how the battery is going.
