possible AFIB starting!

Well, have not been on this site for a few years, but am back on now, looking for answers. Have a St. Jude PM model 2210 (two lead) implanted May 2011.  Have had a few epsiodes where I had to go back in and have the PM "adjusted" correctly. No real problems until recently.  Went to a now electrophysiologist for a 6 month check up ( I still have my cardiologist), she had the rep from St. Jude hook me up to check the PM.  Come  to find out, I have had episodes of AFIB!  What the FRICK!  My biggest issue right now is: I went in for a stressecho Oct. 10, and everything came out clean.  How come the AFIB episodes over the last 90 days?  Wouldn't the stressecho pick these up?

Now, my electrophysiologist put me on Metropolol succate (50 mg) to ease my BP and to possibly get my heart beating somewhat back to normal?  this really concerns me!  I have read where AFIB is a real possibility after CABG (mine was August 2009).  I also read where lifestyle changes MAY help with the AFIB (coffee, alcohol, high BP, etc.).  Is this correct?   In the meantime, do I still jog, bike, hike?  I have been very active and want to get this issue corrected, if possible. Anybody out there with similar issues, concerns? and thanks

AFib is a very common irregularity of the heart beat.  The medication should calm it down or make it happen less often.  It probably wasnt happening during the test, thats why it wouldnt be picked up.  it can only be picked up IF its happening during the recording or test.

Many people have chronic AFib and do just fine.  It is a risk factor for stroke, so you might want to ask your doctor if you should be on aspirin or counadin or one of the other blood thinners.

You can still be as active as ever, it will probably calm down with the pills or it might just continue from time to time.  its only a real problem if it interferes with your quality of life, makes you very fatigued or it wont come out of the AFib.

Ive had AFib for 40+ years, have never stroked but do take coumadin and have had to be cardioverted many, many times.  Thankfully, all that ended with a pacemaker and AV node ablation.
