Blood pressure spikes - twice today

I'm 73, had my PM put in on May 30, 2017 and with the exception of two adjustments in July and September and a bout of anxiety and depression which has been gone since the end of September I've fine.  PM is set to 55, a few PVC's now and then.  Resting blood pressure has been averaging 126/74 with 66 BPM.

Today something went wrong.  I was at a store this morning and felt weak, went home and took my blood pressure an it was 151/92 57 BPM at 9:30 AM.  By 9:45 AM it was down to 106/64 69 BPM and it stayed that way all day until just a few minutes ago at 5:00 PM when it again spiked to 150/95 73 BPM, again feeling weak.

I did send in a Medtronics transmission and I'm waiting for a call backfrom my EP.

Any ideas what this might be?  It's never happened before.  My wife is thinking either dehydration or an anxiety attack.

Whatever it is I don't like it and am concerned.

See What They Say

Hi Marty.

The early months with a PM can be such an adjustment.  I was basically on the low end of BP my whole life until I got my PM.  I now take a daiy beta blocker to keep it in check and also to keep my heart from racing.

Your HR is good during the two episodes you wrote about which is a plus.  It will be interesting to see what your interrogation shows.  If it looks good, you probably need to see your primary care doctor or cardiologist about the BP.  When they call with the results of your transmission, ask them which one you should see.

Happy Thanksgiving, Friend.

I too had low BP and heart rate until my pm.  Then I started going through crazy spikes.  It happened once in the ER after being told it was just anxiety.  Well they figured out it wasnt because I was talking and laughing with a nurse at the time.

I went through that for almost a year and many times it sent me to the ER.  Then two things happened.  I found out that my vitamin D level was zilch.  Then I found out that the first test I had for sleep apenea wasnt correct.  It took almost 8 mos to get my D level to normal and poof my BP and heart rate went back down.  It also helped a great deal with the pvc's.  Then I got a CPAP and things have been pretty good since.

Blood pressure

Hope you are feeling better now. Blood pressure of 150/90 or there abouts is not sufficiently high to cause symptoms.

Blood pressure varies throughout the day. It is not a good idea to check it at the same time each day. Vary the time and take an average over time.  It is lowest after prolonged rest. Just being unwell is sufficient to put up your blood pressure. Anxiety with raise blood pressure.

Always listen to the wife!   I can guarantee you will have lower blood pressure that way.

Back from the cardiologist

So, nothing found.  Pacemaker is working fine, readout was perfect.  The doc, my wife and now I think it was an anxiety / panic attack (was "shopping" at Kohls when it happened in the morning).  Doc told me to double up on the BP meds (Lotrel 5/10) for a week or so, but monitor my BP to be sure it doesn't go below 100 on top; if so go back to one a day.

I took a Xanax last night and this morning, slept like a log, but tired this morning.

What a ride, no fun at all.

THANK YOU AL SO MUCH FOR BEING THERE TO SUPPORT ALL OF US WHEN "Stuff" HAPPENS.

Your anxiety is normal. It takes some of us a little time to adjust to the new friend. As much as they love you, family and friends without a device just cannot understand the adjustment we go through. That is why this site is so valuable.
