Feeling stressed

I am a 59 yr female. I got my pacemaker 22 days ago, my incession is healing well. but I am having a hard time adjusting to the pacemaker, having a lot of anxiety, shortness of breath, feeling like my heart is racing, fatigue all the time. I am wondering is all this part of the recovery. They told me I would come out feeling like a brand-new woman no so.does anyone out there relate to how I am feeling. I am so discouraged.

hi Lilly just wanted to post comment so you know people are here to support you. I am now 17 days post pacemaker implant but did go through four days of being very tearful, thankfully that has passed.

Do you know what your pacemaker was set to? The breathlessness could be due to anxiety but it would seriously not hurt to chat to the arrythmia nurses to make suer the pacemaker is doing the right thing at the right setting. If nothing else it would give you reassurance! We are all different in recovery from procedures and surgeries and maybe you just need to be gentle with yourslef and rest?

Do take care and please speak to a professional if you continue to have concerns. xx

Every now and then I update something I call lessons learned and if it's OK with the moderators, I'll post it here in hope that it can help some of the newer members who have so many questions and are looking for answers.

We all need to learn to be a patient patient

I am post op day 23 and yes, I do feel like a new woman, today. Tomorrow, I  might not. Some days I cry for no particular reason. Some days I need pain relief more than others but I also have to stop and remember my first few days post op. A huge difference! So I am making progress, just not quick enough for me.

You are not alone and we can all associate with the emotions you describe. Be kind to yourself, rest, eat healthy foods, drink enough water and cry if you need to. Sending love from South West England❤️
