So..now..a tiny baby has had a heart transplant.

For ALL of us who have had our thoraxes split open...coz thats what they do....Dont we live in great times ???

AN EARLY HAPPY CHRISTMAS  to all those who find PMC a source of information, comfort and support.

Heart transplants

by Selwyn - 2017-12-04 12:21:45

Sadly, many  more people are dying waiting for transplants.

It is up to every one of us to encourage our friends and relatives to sign up to be donors.

Transplant surgery is no longer experimental. The average years of life after heart transplants is in the teens ( and that is just the average). I personally saw a baby grow into a fine, twenty+ year old after having received a liver as a baby.  He is still going strong.  I have watched people die whilst waitng for transplants.

Did you know that corneas are still transplantable from the elderly?  I get pleasure from the fact that my Mum's corneas [died age 80]  are walking around somewhere.

Sign up, carry a donor card, and get all your friends and relatives to do the same. Organ donation, whether bone marrow, renal, heart, lungs, liver,  corneas, skin, tendons, bone, etc. will change someones life for the better.

Make someone's Christmas special.

Ditto to Selwyns post, no matter what 'gets' you or your age when it does, many parts of you can be used by another to help them through life.

I know a little girl, needed some cadaver bone to fix a crooked leg and a neighbour allowed her dead husband to be harvested for tissues to be used in burn units, his corneas and his long bones.  We take our spare parts with us often, when someone is in dire need of them.

Please sign your donor card!

....thank you guys for your comments....Donor Cards are vital for so many people who are desperate for new organs..we have, as I write, a lodger, who lost his kid brother when he was 16....right now there are people walking round with so many parts that his late Bro donated..

All the best to the PMC people.
