Mine is wireless, ,doesn't need any type of special connection andn doesn't cost me anything.I love having it, means I don't have to go in for quarterly checks anymore and when something is odd I can initiate a download rather than go in to the office. Saves a lot of time. I keep it wrapped ina  towel under the bed so I don't have to see it.

I think it uses cell. They programmed it at the office, I just plugged it in. It doesn't use my wifi or phone.

Land Line and I pay nothing

My Merlin is connected to my Land line and the reports have never cost anything.  I also credit my Merlin with saving my life.  I didn't feel quite right and took my BP, and got an error code because my HR could not be read.  I pushed the Merlin button , and sent a report.  I promptly  received a phone call from the Merlin  monitoring company recommending I go to the ER and saying that they were also phoning the ER.  I then got a phone call from the ER recommending that I go there right away.  To make a long story short, I had  HR of 234 and my heart stopped in the ER.  I was hospitalized for 5 days.  I avoid making a fuss and without the Merlin and their evaluation of my condition,  and  prompting to go to the ER, I very likely would have just stayed home and repeatedly taken my BP expecting the error code to go away.  Then my heart would have stopped at home and not in the ER.  So, the presence of my Merlin is reassuring. Ocassionally my phone in use light is on and no one is talking on the phone so I know that it is the Merlin submitting a periodic report to my cardiologist.  I am a big fan of the Merlin and it costs nothing for the phone reports. It apparently uses a tole free number.
