New technology

Hello all my names mark , my daughter pearle has a pacemaker , 3rd degree heart block since birth she is now 5. Pearle is on her 3rd pacemaker which is now a Medtronic dual pacemaker abdominal. In her last operation they tried to extract lead from vein as was showing wear due to growth in doing so the vein collapsed so that can't be used now and they don't want to use the vein on other side until she is bigger , Hence why in abdomen now , on plus side she is now has a dual pacemaker . Pearles heart structure is normal just missing the SA node signal unfortunately.I was very disappointed about her losing the vein on her one side although it does not effect pearles healthjust one less option for leads but technology is always improving & would like to ask the question are new wirless options available in uk? has any one had this? Is this the future as pearle has many scars from operations and I just want the best for her I love her so much.she takes it in her stride although last op was very distressing for all.im always looking for positives

They are just starting to use a wireless one. It's called Micra if you want to look it up. A few members here have them. At this time, they won't work with traditional leads in place, they are single chamber only, and they won't give them to someone dependent, so that leaves us out on all three counts.  Technology improves by leaps and bounds, so who knows where they'll be in another few years! I, too, have CCHB and am looking forward to the day they perfect leadless for us. When I was Pearle's age, they didn't pace kids, dual lead was not available so I got by without until I was older. Technology is amazing.

hi. I’m a 22 year old female and have had my pacemaker since I was 5. Mine is a dual chamber. They used my right side because the vein on the left(which they normally go through) was too small as well. To this day my leads and pacemaker are still the same(through the right). If she needs a dual chamber, you cannot get the wireless one right now. 

Mine if my leads had suddenly failed and as of right now they are controlling my heart by one lead. They are going to replace a new lead through my left side and abandon the one that had failed due to the fact of taking it out would be too risky since it’s been in for so long. But again, don’t worry about it being in her abnomen forever! They will have more options as she gets older just as I do.
