Can I operate a defibrillator?

Hi All,  I am about a week out with a Medronic CRT-D device and I am a critical care nurse.  I know that I can be defibrillated if necessary, but does anyone know if  can I OPERATE a defibrillator or who I should call to find out?

Thanks,

in fact a defibrillator can be used on a person with an implanted ICD or CRT-D. When using one on another person, if done properly there is no affect on the person operating (applying) it. Of course it's up to the medical facility you work at but I can't see a reason it would be a problem...just don't use it on yourself, leaves a mark

thanks

I did wonder about induction fields like an alternator.

At worst it would deactivate the defib function temporarily and would immediately go back to normal. If you ever do use one do a download from your device afterwards and see if there is any interference recorded. Most interference people report isn't.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
