Rash

New here and only 10 days out from Medtronic dual lead PM (69 yr. old).  After bandages removed noticed 3" round red spot about 5" from incision.  Area has grown now and seems to be spreading daily toward lower chest.  It itches and is warm...to me an obivious infection. I'v searched here about rashes but have not seen any outcomes or solutions used by Dr.'s.

It's got me worried especially when I read about septicaema.  Any experience with this?  I saw my dr's PA and she recommended a general antibiotic and I also see my Cardiologist in 3 days.

If you even think you have an infection, there's only one answer.  Call you doctor.

Don't wait for an appointment. Infection is rare, but potentially very serious.

Rash

Took myself to the ER to get checked and was admitted overnight.  Blood cultures were sent out but that takes time but after 30 hours nothing developing.  The solid red blotches by the PM area were thought to be an allergic reaction to the anesthetic and iodine used to cover that area. He said the pattern matches closely the way that area was covered before surgery.  Surgeon says rare but maybe 1 in 50 might have a reaction.  The other general rash that had spread over half my body was thought to be another allergic reaction to the antibiotics used.  It's all still there but not as angry looking and seems to be subsiding.  Not septis or infection either.
