One day Mirca PM

Just got home from having the micra PM implanted in my heart. Just a little sore in my groin, other than that, I feel great. Day of surgery, I was dizzy, BP 70/50, almost fainted. This morning, Medtronic rep came in and put a huge magnet on my chest connected to a computer. She said  my PM was working great and secure into place. (Inside right ventricle)  One thing that has my mind going is that it will always be there. It will never be removed. When the battery life is up, they will put another one in there. It is so small my heart tissue attaches around it. It that amazing or what??? Still nervous but relieved that I won't flat line again!!

I agree - amazing!

That they are now so tiny. My condition is not suitable for them, but great to see the developments. Remember not to strain the groin area for a few weeks - the entry point will be weak and can rupture until fully healed, leaving a big bruise.

Thank you!

I was told to take it easy for 2 weeks, no stairs for a few days and no lifting 2wks. Not 100% as expected but I am hopeful. My EP has done thousands of regular PM implants and I am #14 with the micra device.  Kinda scary but he was so reassuring, kind and knowledgeable. :)

Hello

I had my pacemaker implanted in September and I have felt many of the same feeling of this device is going to be with me for the rest of my life.  I am 40. Also I worry about battery replacement.

technology rocks :)

It blows my mind sometimes what technology can do! If I'd been born the same year as my mom, I wouldn't have seen my 30th birthday. Instead, I am healthy and active. We are fortunate to have problems with a fix

Purejenn, replacements are super easy. Most of the soreness the first time is from creating the pocket, the restrictions are from the new leads. With replacements they can usually use the same leads and they go in through scar tissue. I'm on my 5th, left for vacation less than a week after two of them.

Lana, the micras are so small, even having several of them probably takes up less space than leads for those of us with traditional leads. They are itty bitty. Glad to hear you are doing well!

Thank you Tracey!

Every story amazes me! Thank you for sharing your success. It really gives me comfort being 45 and healthy my entire life. Then one day--- you need a PM. Second day post op, no pain, with a little dizziness if I stand too long. Doctor has put me on medicine and compression stockings which help A LOT! I am looking forward to helping someone feel comfort with my story just like you did for me. Thank you!

They leave it in the heart

I might be wrong, but my EP told me that when the battery life is over, they leave it in the heart and put another one in. It would be too risky to remove it.

Recovery

Hi Lana.I have delt  with anxiety issues for a long time before the new pacemaker.Suprisingly for me I am not stressing about it since it’s been done other than making sure I follow the post instructions.I am happy I have it and realize I feel much better than I knew I could.I have gone out and done some walking asbab”test” to make sure I felt ok.So far so good.Just reading all the people who are active and doing strenuous workouts is a relief as well.

I understand your Mirca is quite the cool thing! I had asked my doc about it,but It wasn’t for my issue.

So stay positive and hope for your speedy recovery too!

You know you're wired when...

Like the Energizer Bunny, you keep going.

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
