High blood pressure and heart beat after pacemaker procedure

Good day, I have only had my pacemaker for four days and have noticed my blood pressure has climbed, at rest to 153 over 94. Also my heart rate has climbed to 75.

I have always had good pressure, but a low heart rate, hence the operation. Had anybody had these same symptoms after your operation?

Many Thanks, Norm

blood pressure

Before I got my pacemaker my blood pressure was low, sometimes catastrophically low.

After the pacemaker when the base rate was set at 60 the bp went to 100/60. While I felt better than before I got the pacemaker, I felt low energy and tired easily. When the rate was changed to 70, my bp rose to 120/70 and I started feeling really well for the first time since I got the pacemaker.

I have theorized that before I got the pacemaker, my low pulse, and frequent pauses were keeping my bp artificially low.

Heart rate and high blood pressure

Nirm,

yes , prior to open heart surgery i had a blood pressure of 120/80 or lower witha heart rate of 56 bpm. I was asymptomatic but had significant mitral regurgitation. Post open heart surgery to replace the mitral valve and a reduction of the ventricular musclethen went into Mobitz 2 heart block and blood pressure readings of 180//100.

Although the high blood pressure affected me in a bad way the doctors wanted the pacemaker first to correct the rhythm problem. Post pascemaker i continued to have high blood pressure. Meds have corrected that problem. However, my heart rte seems too rapid with 76-78 bpm resting. I am hoping my heart just needs to be reconditioned to all the remodeling. Three months after open heart surgery i felt well and returned to swimming a mile a day, walking 3 miles. After pacemaker surgery i feel that i am struggling. I hate to sound negative, but others have reported these symptoms and i guess it takes a while for the heart to adjust.

Good luck. Taking meds for high blood pressure is not so bad. And yes, i believe my heart was compensating, adjusting to the thickened ventricular muscle and regurgitation. The body seeks " homeostasis."

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
