Abdominal Implant and Pregnancy

Hey, just curious if there’s anyone out there with an abdominal pacemaker implant who has gone through pregnancy.

Ive had a pacemaker my whole life. When I was younger they implanted epicardial abdominal systems..mine is on my left side under my ribs. I don’t use it anymore because I have a trans venous system now.. I’m currently pregnant and baby is growing eveyday.

Im just concerned about baby moving the old pacemaker..it is still attached to my heart.

Anyone out there gone through this?

I haven't been in your situation because I've only had my pacers in the chest so it wasn't an issue when I had my babies. Yes, it's attached to the heart, but it's not likely moving the device or leads will have any impact on the heart. They have been there so long they are held in tight with scar tissue so they aren't going anywhere. You might want to ask your cardiologist.

Discomfort but no okay

Hi,

My doctor and I have had this conversation as I have begun planning on starting my family. He said that he has had someone with an adominal pacemaker have a successful and healthy pregnancy. He said he could not think of any complications. What he warned me was that it could cause discomfort but no big risks.

You have an excuse for gaining an extra ounce or two.

Yesterday was my first day mountain biking after my implant. I wiped out several times and everything is fine. There are sports after pacemakers!
